The new school year begins with many new faces on campus including one furry face. Villa Madonna Academy is happy to welcome Corie, a therapy dog, to our elementary school. Corie's human companion is new fourth grade teacher Maria Borchardt. Mrs. Borchardt and our school counselor, Mrs. Wuebben, have been introducing students to Corie.
Corie helps when students are feeling sad or anxious. She lights up the classroom when she walks in. Students erupt in, "It's Corie!". Corie is a real school spirit booster, and we hope when she is settled in that she will become a reading buddy. Studies show that reading to dogs helps students boost their literacy. We look forward to Stories with Corie.
