Welcome Back From the Boosters!
August 17, 2016
Dear Villa Parents,
Welcome to the 2016 – 2017 school year. The VMA Athletic Boosters had another very successful year thanks to your generosity and efforts. Our Secretary for the past several years, Sheila Kermes, has “retired”; her sons, Nick and Joey, have both graduated and are now in college. She did an outstanding job as Secretary and Chair of the Shoot a Thon, and we wish her the best, as she and her husband, Glen, have relocated to Minnesota. The position of Secretary is vacant at this time and the Boosters are searching for someone to fill the position. If you are interested, please contact Eric Schmitt, Mary Pavel, or myself (Dave Thomas). The VMA Athletic Boosters Organization, in conjunction with the VMA Athletic Department and the many gracious volunteers, raises funds in support of the athletic activities of all VMA student – athletes, grades 1 -12. These funds are a significant contributor to the Athletic Department budget for the purchase and maintenance of athletic equipment and team uniforms for all of the sports programs at Villa. The VMA Athletic Boosters hold two major fundraisers each year: The Van Houten / Aydt Memorial Golf Outing and the Shoot-a-thon. The golf outing is in memory of our former boys’ golf coaches Denny Van Houten and Tom Aydt, who have passed away. The 25th annual golf outing took place this year on Monday, June 13 at Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills. This event was a great success, and we were able to raise over $13,000 for the Athletic Department. Thank you to all of the Event, Dinner, and Hole Sponsors, Donors, golfers, event volunteers, and golf outing committee members for your efforts in making this event successful. A special thanks goes out to Golf Outing Chairperson, and alumnus, Jon Aydt. Although the golf format is used, this fund raiser benefits all VMA athletic programs, not just the golf teams. Look for more information in March on next year’s outing. The Annual Shoot-a-thon will take place on a Saturday during the winter season at the VMA gym (The Thunderdome). All students, grades 1 -12 are encouraged to participate. Coaches and parents are also encouraged to join in the fun, putting their basketball free throw shooting skills to the test. Like the golf outing, this event benefits all athletic programs, even though the basketball format is used. We are therefore always searching for ways to include athletes from other sports. Your input and participation in this endeavor would be welcomed. Last year, this event raised over $14,000 for the Athletic Department. A special thanks goes out to event chairperson (and former Boosters secretary), Sheila Kermes. In addition to the Shoot-a-thon and golf outing, the VMA Boosters Organization also operates the gym concession stand during the high school volleyball and basketball seasons, and other special events. This endeavor requires many dedicated volunteers throughout the season to operate smoothly. Please consider volunteering some of your time to work at the concession stand. The Boosters traditionally meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the gym conference room. Parents of all grade levels are invited to attend Booster meetings and become involved with the Booster organization. We are always looking for fresh ideas that will enable us to raise additional money for the VMA athletic program. Please check the VMA calendar on the website or check school announcements for verification of Booster meeting dates and times.Thank you for all that you do to help make VMA such a fantastic environment for our children.-Dave ThomasBooster Officers:President Dave ThomasVice President David MeierTreasurers Christy and Kevin MeyerSecretary Dave SmeltzerBooster Directors:Athletic Director Eric SchmittAthletic Dept.
