This past weekend thirteen students from Villa Madonna Academy participated in the Queen City Chess Classic.  This Midwest Scholastic Tournament had over 700 participants this year from ten different states. Our students did VERY well in the competition.  Our first grade team, consisting of Neya Gupta, Luke Everhardt and Ty Dropic finished in 2nd place for their age division.  Our second grade team made up of Ben Blacketer and Sam Regensburger also finished 2nd.  The third grade team including Henry Durkin, Andrew Nichols, Thomas Steinken and Drew Ellis finished 5th and our fourth grade team consisting of Charlie Thiemann, John Regensburger and Ben Dropic placed 3rd.  Our kids also did great in the individual competition, including a 9th place for Ty Dropic in the 1st grade section, 6th place for Ben Blacketer and 13th place for Sam Regensburger in the 2nd grade section. Henry Durkin finished 17th in the 3rd grade section, Ben Dropic earned 6th place in the 4th grade section and Jackson Bond finished 2nd in the 5th grade section.  Special thanks to their coach, Mr. Dropic who has done an incredible job with these students.
