Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Feb 05, 2020
Author John C. Maxwell is credited with the clever statement, "Teamwork makes the dream work." How many times in your life have you had to work with someone else? You may have teamed up with someone to complete a big project, to clear the paper jam on the office printer, or to win the company softball game. Teamwork has been called a "soft" skill needed for the workplace, but teamwork is essential for success in a work environment and beyond.
At Villa Madonna Academy, students start building this skill in primary school where weekly guidance classes teach about listening to one another, recognizing feelings, and empathy. They learn how to collaborate in the Fab Lab where students work in groups to complete STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) challenges such as programming a robot to dance to a song. As students continue through school, they work together to extract DNA from a strawberry in science class (photo above), to design posters in religion class, and to complete challenges at the annual Senior Picnic. Working together helps students learn good communication, leadership, and problem-solving, and those skills will benefit them for a lifetime.
