A Season of Kindness

This Advent, we are celebrating a Season of Kindness. Elementary students will receive a Santa that has various acts of kindness. Students are encouraged to share an act of kindness every day.

We kicked off our school year with a commitment to kindness when author and speaker Father Jim Sichko spoke to faculty and staff at the Back to School Professional Development Day. Father Jim said being kind is the most important thing one can do to have a successful year. How can we be kind? Father Jim offered three simple tips:

1)      Stop being a jerk. He said it is important not to “pass your messiness on to others.” If you are having a bad day, do not make someone else’s day bad, too.

2)      Honor the absent. Remember your words are powerful. Do not talk about someone in their absence. If you would not say it to their face, it is best not to say anything at all.

3)      Think positive, instead of negative. Assume the best of people, not the worst.

Father Jim said, “Be kind, and watch what happens.”

In this season of giving and celebrating, we are sharing and celebrating our gift of kindness with those around us.
