Our hearts are heavy with sadness for the families affected by the tragic school shooting in Florida. News reports of school shootings have become far too common, and your children may have concerns about their own safety at school. Villa elementary school counselor, Mrs. Wuebben, has some suggestions for talking to children about school violence.

1) Allow your child to ask questions and answer them honestly with information that is age appropriate.

2) Ask your child to identify adults at school that make them feel safe. Remind your student that every adult at Villa is here to keep them safe.

3) Talk to your child about Villa's safety and security measures. Just last week, Villa had a lockdown drill so that all teachers and students know what to do in the event of an emergency. Ask your child about what they learned.

4) Reassure your child. There is a lot of good in the world, but there are people who do bad things.
