Blue Lightning Sports
Jan 04, 2016
The winter sports season is underway, and the Blue Lightning is off to a fantastic start.
Villa Madonna's High School girls' basketball team is going strong, and don't they look it in the photo above? (Thanks to Tony Wagner for providing the picture.) The team started its season 6-0 this year under coach Brian Coburn. Check out this article about them: http://goo.gl/IxYsRV
Our elementary teams continue to do well, too. Villa Madonna's third grade girls is on a roll this season. In regular season play, they are undefeated. The team's only loss came in the St. Joseph Basketball Invitational. They lost in a nailbiter to take second place in the tournament.
Villa Madonna's High School swim team is making news, too. You can find a great article about our swim team by clicking on this link: http://goo.gl/ljeUX8. The team opened its season with Zach Stringer leading the men's team in scoring with a 1st place finish in the 50 Breaststroke and a 6th place in the 50 Freestyle. Logan Sprague placed 5th in the 50 Butterfly and 7th place in the 100 Individual Medley. Hanlei Wang placed 9th in the 100 Backstroke and 10th in the 100 Breaststroke. Gabriel Powell swam two lifetime best times finishing 11th in the 50 Breaststroke. Ainsley Marlette led the women's team with two 7th place finishes in the 50 Butterfly and 100 Individual Medley. The men's team finished 8th place overall.
We wish all of our athletes a great season!
