Welcome Back From the Boosters!

September 23, 2019

Dear Villa Parents,

Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 school year. The VMA Athletic Boosters had yet another successful year thanks to your generosity and efforts. The VMA Athletic Boosters Organization, in conjunction with the VMA Athletic Department and the many gracious volunteers, raises funds in support of the athletic activities of all VMA student – athletes, grades 1 -12. These funds are a significant contributor to the Athletic Department budget for the purchase and maintenance of athletic equipment and team uniforms for all of the sports programs at Villa.

This past year, in addition to donating $20,000 to the Athletic Department, the Boosters donated $9,000 towards the repair of the tennis courts, paid for coaches KHSAA/NKAC dues, paid for Senior banners, and provided conference championship tee shirts for those HS teams that won their conference outright, including softball, boys’ tennis, and boys’ and girls’ track.

The Boosters meet once each month in the gym conference room. Please check the VMA calendar on the website or check school announcements for dates and times of Boosters meetings. Parents of all grade levels are invited to attend Boosters meetings and become involved with the Boosters organization.  We are always looking for fresh ideas that will enable us to raise additional money for the VMA athletic program.

The VMA Athletic Boosters hold two major fundraisers each year:  The Memorial Golf Outing and the Shoot-a-thon. The 28th annual golf outing took place this year on Tuesday, June 11 at Summit Hills Country Club. This event was a success, and we were able to raise over $8,500 for the Athletic Department.  Thank you to all of the event, dinner, and hole sponsors, donors, golfers, event volunteers, and golf outing committee members for your efforts in making this event successful. Although the golf format is used, this fund raiser benefits all VMA athletic programs equally. Look for more information in March on next year’s outing.

The Annual Shoot-a-thon typically takes place on a Saturday during the winter season at the VMA gym. All VMA basketball players in grades 1-8 are expected to participate in Shoot-a-thon, which is also yearbook photo day for the all of the ES and JR/HS basketball teams.

Villympics, an event introduced by the Boosters 2 years ago to compliment Shoot-a-thon, is held on a Friday night during the winter season. All VMA students in grades 7-12 that participate on a High School athletic team are expected to participate in Villympics, but it is open to all students in that grade range. This is more of a social atmosphere than Shoot-a-thon, where students try their skills at a multitude of different athletic competitions, not just the ones that they play

Like the golf outing, money raised at both Shoot-a-thon and Villympics benefits all athletic programs equally. Together, the 2 events raised $7,000 for the Athletic Department.

The Elementary Basketball Invitational Tournament, which the Boosters help organize and operate, had another great year. Over $6,000 was raised for the Athletic Department. Each VMA basketball team in grades 1-8 invites 2-3 other teams for a small tournament over 2 weekends, giving VMA students the chance to play a game on their own court, and showcase our wonderful facilities. Ajdin Dropic once again spearheaded this event.

In addition to the aforementioned fund raisers, the VMA Boosters Organization also operates the gym concession stand during the high school volleyball and basketball seasons, and other special events, such as the Elementary Basketball Invitational and Archery Tournament.  This endeavor requires many dedicated volunteers throughout the season to operate smoothly.  Please consider volunteering some of your time to work at the concession stand.

Over the next couple of years, several of the Boosters Officers will be “retiring” and we will therefore be looking to fill those positions. Please consider becoming involved in Boosters and become the next generation of leaders for this wonderful group.

Thank you for all that you do to help make VMA such a fantastic environment for our children.
